Rituals
A five-minute evening wind-down
Soft light, a warm cup of tea and a little Dream Balm. A gentle way to close the day.
3 min read
The day is done. Or at least, it should be.
But the phone still hums. The inbox keeps filling. The news scrolls on and on, and there’s always one more message to answer. Even after the work is finished, the mind keeps running, like a window we forgot to close.
It isn’t your fault. Modern life is bright and loud, and it rarely tells us when it’s time to stop. So we have to tell ourselves, gently.
That’s what an evening ritual is for. Not a project. Not one more thing to get right. Just five quiet minutes that say, softly, the day is over now.
Here is ours. Take it slowly.
Minute one
Let the screens rest
Silence your phone and set it face down, or better yet, in another room. Dim the lights until the room turns soft and golden. Light a candle if you like.
Minute two
Pour something warm
Make a cup of caffeine-free herbal tea. Chamomile or lavender are lovely here. Wrap both hands around the mug. Breathe in the steam. There is nowhere else to be.
Minute three
Open your Dream Balm
Warm a small amount between your fingertips. Notice the scent as it rises: lavender and blue chamomile, soft and floral, like a garden at dusk.
Minute four
Slow everything down
Massage the balm into the back of your neck, your wrists and between your toes. Move slowly. Take long, easy breaths. Let your shoulders drift down, away from your ears.
Minute five
Sip, breathe, let go
Sit with your tea until the cup is empty. If a thought lingers, write it down and leave it on the page for tomorrow. Then turn out the light.
